“I have noticed that practical knowledge is much more difficult to transfer because there are no appropriate, accessible tools,” says Deividas Juozulynas, a developer and researcher of interdisciplinary design.
His interests lie in industrial product design, service design and design education. As a design facilitator at Critical, he helps businesses overcome strategic challenges in their relationships with consumers, leads workshops and shares his insights in publications. Deividas is a co-founder of the industrial product design studio Desdorp and is currently a participant of the Vilnius Academy of Arts’ InoAkademija project’s Entrepreneurship Programme.
An idea born during a global pandemic
As part of the InoAcademy project, the researcher is developing Edurega, a practical skills remote learning device. It is designed to create video content for remote learning. Edurega is unique in that it records video from a first-person perspective. Deividas became interested in this topic during the global pandemic, when education was disrupted. As a lecturer at the Vilnius Academy of Arts, for him it was an experience that also led to new habits. He saw a wider range of possibilities for learning and knowledge transfer.
While creating educational video content related to the transfer of digital knowledge to students, the researcher pointed out that practical knowledge is much more difficult to transfer when there are no appropriate or accessible tools.
Helping employees change careers
The device Deividas designed is ergonomic and intuitive to use. The device, if used in the market, can enable people to retrain more quickly, especially if it is a practical speciality. Helping people to quickly master knowledge brings benefits to both the employee and the employer in the workplace. Using the product development and entrepreneurial knowledge gained during the entrepreneurship programme, the researcher is currently testing the practical skills demonstration package with a wider range of people. Investment is also being sought to take the product to market.
